On November 20, 2025, Piedmont Regional Jail hosted its Annual Volunteer Dinner to show appreciation for the dedicated volunteers who generously give their time to guide and support the offenders at the facility. This year’s guest speaker was Retired Honorable Judge Joel Cunningham Sr., the first African American judge to serve in this region, having presided in Halifax County.
Judge Joel Cunningham Sr. shared his deep compassion for helping individuals overcome substance abuse addiction and emphasized the importance of meaningful rehabilitation. He highlighted the serious commitment required to support positive change and encouraged all volunteers to continue their vital work in guiding and inspiring the individuals inside the jail.
The jail staff also presented each volunteer with a token of appreciation in recognition of their dedication and service. Piedmont Regional Jail remains committed to supporting programs that help individuals grow, make positive choices, and deter them from engaging in wrongful acts. The continued partnership with volunteers plays a vital role in promoting rehabilitation and strengthening the path toward successful change.
